Shop the House

When Paige and I talk about the house of id, we can feel people tracking along with us for the part where we explain about it being a short-term rental. Most folk’s eyes remain focused for the explanation of the accessibility features. It’s the “and everything in the house is for sale” part where we lose some of you.

So let me explain.

When Paige was at her worst, we didn’t leave the house. I’m talking Covid quarantine was like a Tuesday for us. So we spent a lot of time—years, in fact—in our house. Making the house a sanctuary for our family became an activity we both enjoyed. We would acquire vintage pieces whenever we could. Sometimes that meant Paige would save all her energy to go to one store on a weekend. You can imagine the joy when we found something on that kind of outing. We would bring it home and spend a lot of time finding just the right place for it. But it was tiring. And infrequent. We know we aren’t alone in this kind of endeavor. The act of saving up your energy to do something you love is a theme for many people with disabilities.

In comes the house of id.

Think of Paige and me as personal shoppers for things you didn’t know you needed but have always wanted. id is filled with vintage and modern objects that serve no other purpose but to bring joy. Sure, you can sit on things, or use things to hold other things, but in general, an object has arrived at id because either Paige or Dara made “the face” when they showed it to the other one. To give you an idea of the amount of legwork and variety that went into stocking the house to open in the fall of 2023, we sourced items from over 130 unique places. That’s crackers!!!

Here’s the best part. You don’t need the energy to visit 130 places to find something you love. We have done the work for you. Just come and stay. All the amazing objects we have curated surround you as a guest at id. Buying that print you loved when you were taking a shit in the main floor bathroom is as easy as scanning a QR code, looking up a SKU, or just typing in “framed art” to the search bar on the online guest shop. We have made it as easy as possible to go from, “I love those lucite grapes,” to “did I really just buy plastic grapes from the 1970s?”

You’re welcome!
